Vuurwerk Competition and Mauritshuis

We watched the beginning of the international firework competition last night. Two countries will put on a show nightly.
Our view! Last night was the Netherlands' and Poland's shows. The kids stayed up late (10 and 10:30 were the show times). But it was really worth it.

This morning we went into Den Haag central via tram. We had taught the kids about "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" painting by Vermeer. Vermeer and Rembrandt are both featured Dutch artists at the Mauritshuis, an art museum.

Here are the kids drawing their version and taking notes.

Funny bunny on the tram.

A little running fun on the walk around the square.

The backside of the Mauritshuis with Mondrian style squares floating in the water. Much of Den Haag references the Mondrian art style. It is a hub of banks, art, and embassies.
The kids navigated the map for the museum and found the images listed for each room including the painting we studied the day before. Vermeer's painting of Delft was also a favorite since we have been there with the kids on our previous visits. We spent an hour at the museum then ate lunch in the square.

The kids found a lady bug and ladybug larve, and made a habitat for them out of an ashtray and a leaf.
Overall this was a great adventure out and the kids did so well. Personally I was glad to have gotten the chance to see the pictures in person I have seen in reproduction. Hopefully we will get to other museums later in our trip.

Lord,
Thank You for art that gives us a glimpse of the past. Thank You for the time to be together as a family and make memories on our trips. We feel You with us always. Through Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
